State of Illinois Revenue Building (Willard Ice Building) Springfield, Illinois

The Willard Ice Building is a 913,236 sq. ft., 7-story building established in 1982. The building houses the Illinois Department of Revenue along with the Department of Aging, Lottery, and Gaming Board and Liquor Control. The building is occupied and operates 24/7 year around. It is a high security building requiring background checks for anyone wanting to enter on a regular basis. The project originally consisted of replacing the sprinkler system in its entirety.

Project Features:

·Ultrasound testing to determine the internal condition of the existing sprinkler piping.

·As a result of testing the existing sprinkler system piping was deemed to be in good condition and therefore was reused, in lieu of replacing it.

Existing fire pumps, jockey pump, control panels and concrete pump bases were replaced.

Sprinkler heads in certain areas within the building were re-configured to comply with code spacing requirements.

3,700 existing sprinkler heads, drops and nipples were replaced with quick response heads.
